Listed Buildings & Conservation Areas

It is a great privilege to work with listed buildings and in Scotland's many conservation areas and we have a great deal of experience in doing so.

Whilst the unique characteristics of these buildings and environments must be respected, it is equally important that developments represent a contribution to the historical narrative of the built environment.

In order to protect listed buildings for the future it is important that people continue to use them.  A sensitive approach must therefore be taken to renovation and alteration for twenty first century living.  With a rich experience and understanding of listed buildings, we work with trusted partners to advise on maintenance and improvements, as well as designing appropriate modern interventions.

Many projects incorporate comprehensive refurbishments including negotiations with the local planning authority and Historic Scotland to install slim-line double glazing.  We also design contemporary extensions and alterations to both celebrate and contribute to a building’s history.
