family room extension in conservation area

Extend and Save... Are you making the most of your property?

November 3, 2014

Changing or adding to your home can give you the space you need and save you money.

The Hopes' story, below, is one of a growing family looking for more space.  This is common to many of our projects, and can often be solved without the need to move.

Mr and Mrs Hope love their home, their neighbours, the local schools and the community they live in, but with a growing family, they were quickly running out of space.  They felt trapped and considered moving, but a friend recommended a local Architect to help solve their problem.

Working with the Hopes, the local Architect found ways to optimise and improve their house; adding bedrooms, space for the kids to play and a place for the Hopes to work from home.  They were delighted, and after only a few meetings, with many cups of tea, their dream extension was designed and approved by the local council.

The local Architect was on-hand throughout the building works and guided the Hopes through the process.  Through years of experience, the Architect and his team have developed expert knowledge and have good relationships with local buildings, enabling them to provide a friendly and straightforward service.

The Hopes were making use of the additional space much sooner than expected, and were able to continue living in the house and community they love.  As well as a home better suited to their needs, they increased the value of their property by much more than was invested.

We enjoy helping families with situations like these and always enjoy meeting new clients. Please feel free to get in touch to arrange a friendly chat and a cup of tea! Further information on our alteration and extension projects is on our addition page and all of our latest updates are on Facebook.

Our first Planning Permission of 2019 has just been granted. This simple garden room in Midlothian incorporates a butterfly roof to ensure light penetrates into the room throughout the day. Full height glazing also provides a visual connection to the garden. #midlothianarchitect

We've enjoyed our first week back, firing on all cylinders and getting 2019 off to a great start. A few helpful presents already being put to good use include a scale-rule pen and a coffee mug from the Yellow Door Studio. Lots of sketches and other images to come...

Glazing the corner of this existing stone offshoot will open the new family living space up for better connection to the garden. #contemporaryintervention #conservationarea #edinburgharchitect #modernliving

Great to see the new windows and stone surrounds going into the offshoot of this stone house in an Edinburgh Conservation Area. Sensitive but contemporary additions to optimize the home for modern living. #conservationarea #edinburgharchitect #modernliving #bespokedesign
