We are looking forward to celebrating the practice's fifth anniversary with a stand at the Edinburgh Home Building and Renovating Show on 21-22 October 2017. This will be an opportunity to showcase our portfolio of bespoke designs and to talk to self-build clients about the bespoke service we offer.
When the practice was first established in 2012, Douglas was keen to deliver a friendly and straightforward service to domestic clients, to demystify the process and help people to get their dream homes. This approach has allowed us to design a wide range of exciting extensions and houses, each tailored to the specific needs and tastes of the clients. With every project comes a unique set of relationships, meaning that as well as bespoke designs, we are also providing bespoke services.
An increasing number of people are taking an interest in "self-build" to get their dream home, enabling them to be much more closely involved in the process. Over the past five years, we have developed a method of calibrating our services to individual clients, making sure they get benefits of professional advice and high standards of design all through the life of their project. This is done using tools such as our process map and by discussing the relative merits of different project configurations.
An open dialogue throughout is key to the design process, which is a process of exploring possibilities and managed decision making. Whilst the end result is of course the purpose of this, getting there can be an enjoyable journey. In the four case studies from our portfolio we will be showcasing at the show, we therefore intend to tell the story of each project. Each begins with an idea, and through design dialogue, becomes a reality. Telling these stories, is telling the story of the practice so far, and we very much look forward to many more years of providing bespoke designs and bespoke services.
