Many people dream of having a bespoke house and of being involved in designing and building it. An increasing number of people in the UK are doing just that, and we love helping to make these projects happen.
The term "self-build" is used to describe one-off house projects, which are designed specifically for the people who will live in them. The degree of direct involvement people choose to have varies, so it doesn't necessarily mean that they will literally build the house themselves, although it can!
As these projects are unique, the nature of the support and advice we offer is as bespoke as the designs we produce. Design is a process of decision making, from broad briefing to detailed specifications, and our services are configured to assist with this. Self build clients are often keen to learn a lot about design and construction and the industry is increasingly accessible to this. We can help to navigate the information available and offer impartial advice to help with these decisions.
Dialogue can be verbal, or through sharing images, but drawings are of course central to the design process. We explore a range of aesthetics and configurations with clients, often producing 3D models for discussion. As the project moves forward, we can also provide traditional services, such as making applications for statutory consents and preparing technical information for construction. The most successful projects also benefit from professional oversight and payment certification during the construction phase.
